We are pleased to report that our billboard ordinance passed the City Council on Sept 6, 2007. The vote was 10 to 1 (Bill Skaggs in opposition)
The Ordinance will not allow new billboards on City streets and only on highways in our City if they are in industrial areas. There has to be a 4,200' separation from another billboard and the size reduced. No new digital billboards are allowed, nor are existing billboards permitted to go to digital.
Billboards need to be maintained and cannot be left blank for more than 90 days. "Blank" is defined as outdated, illegible or not containing advertising copy.
Due to the referendum filed by the industry and legal issues, the Ordinance did not become effective officially until Nov 9th. There is a 90 day waiting period before they can be cited by the City. Please report any violations to Action Center by dialing 311 anytime after February 7th. However, you can
report any that are in disrepair now, since that is covered by the previous ordinance.
Let us know whether you have reported any and where they are so we can keep track of the enforcement.
Thanks to all of you who made this possible.
